@Elite Tee: It is not hard at all. All you have to do is start the server binary. The configuration is done either with the autoexec.cfg or you specify your own configuration file with the -f parameter. It's pretty straight forward, isn't it? This system is very similar (if it is not exact the same) to the way other servers (e.g. apache as web-server) are started on unix like systems. So this should really be the best way. If you want to start the server as a deamon you could create a start/stop/restart script very easily if you have a bit of unix knowledge (and I believe these things exist already somewhere in this forum). Also for windows there are tools that help you in creating a server, if you do it on your local machine. There is even a free web-interface that is capable of creating, starting, stopping, creating configurations and everything you need. With this it is very easy to control your servers via your web-browser. These methods should really be sufficient.
What way did you think of handling the servers anyway?
@dremy: This is definitely the wrong topic for this question, create an own topic and do it in the correct section. Probably this is not the right forum for this question anyway.
There are enough linux users to not leave them out.
I'm happy enough if you release the sourcecode.
If you don't want to do that though, I could compile it for the public.
Well, in my opinion this is not that useful, others might like it.
One more question: Is this a cross platform program or just another windows-only-crap-tool (sorry for being rude... it's just annoying how ignorant people can be...).
btw. you do not have to inform mods about your donation. Usually matricks will set your rank as soon as he recieves the paypal email.
The main problem in my eyes is still that we do not have any real information about how the project assures security. I personally won't trust a program from which I don't know how it works.
The other problem is still, that in my eyes it should be a cross platform program. You are simply excluding many players. For example how should I (a Mac/Linux user) face an accuse of botting. People might ask me to use this client. Then I answer that I can't and won't. Thus people will think that in fact I do bot, because I am refusing to use anti cheat software. This is just not correct.
With "tileable" you mean they are not meant to be used as quads but as tiles?
1. We don't support mods.
2. Use the search function. This question has been asked 10000000 times...
At first, please write in a proper english. Secondly, give more information about what you are planning to do.
@WrX: There are already ways around TTC and in my opinion it's just as useless as this piece of software.
@Cadr: Just to tell you: I don't want to offend you. I think every effort put into a project that is related to teeworlds is good. I really appreciate it, when people actually do something for the game we all like so much. But in my opinion your program is not useful, it's just the wrong approach to the problem of cheating in my opinion. And again, this is only my opinion (from the poll we can see that actually there are some people who do believe your software to be a fine and useful tool).
So again, if you don't want to give out this "secreted" information, please tell us at least if your program will give protection against .dll hookups.
In oder to do port forwarding correctly, you need to launch the configuration program of your router (usually this is done by entering the router's ip address in the web-browser of your choice). How to forward the port is router specific. Here you have a list of possible router and descriptions how to do portforwarding with them. If you still need help, tell us which router model you are using and give a bit more details about your problem.
You still did not answer my main question: How do you verify it's the original twclient, your program is starting?
When I asked about how this program works, I meant a different thing. It's clear to me that it is somehow starting the tw client. But how do you verify that is a vanilla client? Do you take a hashcode of the file and compare it? Is there any possible solution against .dll hookups? If not, this software is just useless.
In my opinion it is in general not useful, if it is not cross platform. Users of those systems will have no possibility to prove their "cleanness" to the users of your tool.
Also I believe a piece of software like this is not needed at all. It is not too hard to distinguish a bot from a real player. There have been very long talks about that topic, so I won't bring that up again.
This having said, I still wish you the best with your project, though I'm considering it sensless.
I have to tell you that I don't like the idea of using an external program to verify one is not cheating. I don't know how your program works, maybe you should tell a bit about, so we are able to decide whether it gives protection we can rely on, or not. I understand you probably won't release the sources of that tool, since that would give room to new cheats, but you should at least provide linux and mac binaries, too, so users of these operating systems are not left out. (If your program is not cross-platform, forget the last part and (in my opinion) you should get rid of it....(sorry, but 'm just sick of all these "software-developers" who create winodws only propgrams. I mean, it is not too hard to program cross-platform....).
Because my lack of knowledge about your tool, I can't decide whether it is "safe" or not, but from reading your description I think there are easy ways around it. I might change my opinion, if you provide us with more information.
I would really like to test this thing. However, you are only providing a windows binary. DId you code that thing for windows only (using mircosoft vistual studio... e.g.) or is the code portable?
Don't modify! It's all correct!
Your problem is that sdl is still marked as missing in you bam configuration in the teeworlds folder. Do a
bam -c all
in the teeworlds dircetory and you should be fine
Please read the MAP FORUM RULES before posting a map. Your description lacks several important parts.
About the map:
I see you used some custom graphics, which would be nice, if the graphics were nice or interesting. However, yours are just simple lensflares, that even look pixled, and do have nothing in common with the teeworlds graphics. The other graphics are maybe a bit better, but not very good, too (in my opinion).
Also the map is not tiled very well:
There are a lot of sharp edges (i mean e.g. when you tiled with grass, you do only use the standard grass tiles, no round corners and stuff, only sharp cuts).
I did not play the map yet, but I can easily tell the gameplay will very boring and bad. Try to be a bit more innovative and creative and do not leave that much space in your map. The hearts/shields/weapons are not placed very well to.
Try to put a little more effort into your maps, Maybe this is one of your first ones, but this is no excuse for laziness. Try to make it as good as possible, I know you can do better, everybody can. Just have a look at the official maps and look what are the differences between them and your map
Opengl and stuf should be available in most cases already. What kind of OS do you use?
The error you are encountering is because you are missing the sdl library. For example on a debian or ubuntu based system just do
sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2-dev
This should solve your problem.
I definitely support the idea of having a regular release cycle.
We also need to build up a team of more core developers. Right now there is only Oy. Of course, he is the code maintainer, but there are a lot of other people who sent in so many patches, that they deserve the title "developer" in my opinion.
Also we should have some people who keep the community up to date about what is happening in development. This could either be done using the news on the main page, or in the forum. I know there has already been an attempt to do so and in my opinion we should continue with that. However, this should not only be done by the community, but it should be official.
The main problem in my opinion is, that there is no developer at all (leaving out Landil) who is actually active in the forum and keeping contact to the community. And this in my opinion is the problem to the missing connection between community and development. We need "developers" who also are active here on the forum. For example: There are hundreds of suggestions for the new version in this thread, but most of them are marked in grey, which means there has not been an official statement if it will be implemented or not.
Why is this the case?
I think it is because nobody of the developers even cares to read through them. This is just not acceptable. We need to make a active communication between development and community possible. In my opinion either the developers should be more active in this forum here and keep (or better start) the contact to the community, or we should have some new people do that.
In my opinion the second option would be better. I think it's good to bring in some new and energetic blood into the team. Who this person should be is discussable, maybe we should have even 2 or 3 new members in the team.
First of all I would like to know your opinions about how we could solve those issues. Do you support my point of view, or do you have a completely different opinion?
@munyul: For new ideas (also those which concern innovations concerning gameplay), please suggest them in this thread.
Or in 0.5.3 already...
utf8 support is also a little problem. It will not create real problems, but it just looks very ugly if you see aquares instead of special chars. However this should not be the real problem.
Just to let you know: It is not sure if there will be an 0.5.3 release soon, or not. It was just a suggestion, and we do not have a response from Oy about that yet. However, we had some talk about that topic in irc today. Matricks was involved there, too, and he also supported our idea of releasing a 0.5.3 version of teeworlds. But do not rely on that, It is not for sure yet.
